Vilarcangel Staff

We believe that in order to create, all we need is the tools and the right environment. Our experience shows us that the channels for the dissemination of artists' work are changing. Likewise, new types of disciplines and concerns are emerging in artists who advocate creating new alternatives to the commercial circuits of art. Therefore, our intention is to contribute to train artists in new fields, such as art therapy, music therapy and, especially, art with social commitment. This latter type of art is self-managed through crowding and collaborative economy. In this way, the artist does not need the established circuits to be able to develop his work, since he is learning how to generate new methodologies not only of creation but also of management.

Our team was in 1996 co-creator of RED ARTE, the first network of independent spaces in the Spanish state for the diffusion of Contemporary Art, and in 1999 participated in Stockholm in the creation of FESARS, First European Seminar for Artist Run Spaces, the first European platform for the management and collaboration of independent spaces. From 1991 to 1999 we held Sociedad de Artistas Purgatori, an exhibition space in the city of Valencia managed through a cultural association and a collective of artists. From 2000 to 2011 we created and developed the Observatori - International Festival of Artistic Research in Valencia, which was held at the Principe Felipe Museum of Science, MUVIM (Valencian Museum of Illustration and Modernity) and the Royal Atarazanas of Valencia . In 2003 the Cultural Association Pronostica was created, which is in charge of managing Vilarcangel, and was created to manage the festival of the same name that was held at the MACE, Museum of Contemporary Art in Ibiza. Pronostica has been developing over the years in a sporadic way in El Claustre of the Church of Carmen in Mahon, Minorca, and has collaborated with Es Baluard, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palma. Currently Vilarcangel collaborates with artists and spaces from around the world who share our vision of creation as a tool to generate a more just, conscious and supportive world.
